Microplastics, ubiquitous in the environment due to their widespread use and persistence, have emerged as a significant environmental concern. This study investigates the impact of microplastics on freshwater ecosystems, focusing on a local river as a case study. The research aims to understand the distribution, sources, and potential ecological implications of microplastics in the freshwater environment. A multi-faceted approach combining field surveys, laboratory analyses, and ecological assessments will be employed to achieve the research objectives. The study begins with a comprehensive review of literature on microplastics in freshwater ecosystems, exploring the current state of knowledge, key findings, and gaps in understanding.
