Abstract
Climate change is a pressing global issue with far-reaching consequences, particularly evident in the accelerated rates of coastal erosion worldwide. Coastal regions are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including rising sea levels, increased storm intensity, and changing precipitation patterns. This thesis aims to investigate the impact of climate change on coastal erosion and develop sustainable adaptation strategies to mitigate its adverse effects. The study will begin with an exploration of the background of coastal erosion and climate change, highlighting the interconnected nature of these phenomena. A comprehensive literature review will delve into existing research on climate change impacts on coastal areas, current adaptation strategies, and gaps in knowledge that warrant further investigation. Methodologically, this research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of historical erosion data with qualitative assessments of community perceptions and adaptation efforts. The research methodology will include data collection through field surveys, interviews with stakeholders, and analysis of satellite imagery to assess changes in coastal morphology over time. The findings of this study will be presented in Chapter Four, providing a detailed analysis of the impact of climate change on coastal erosion in the study area. The discussion will explore the effectiveness of current adaptation strategies and propose innovative approaches to enhance coastal resilience in the face of climate change. In conclusion, this thesis will summarize key findings and propose recommendations for policymakers, urban planners, and community stakeholders to develop and implement sustainable adaptation strategies. By understanding the impact of climate change on coastal erosion and prioritizing proactive measures, coastal communities can build resilience and adapt to the challenges posed by a changing climate.
