Microplastic pollution has become a significant environmental concern in coastal areas, posing a threat to marine ecosystems worldwide. This thesis aims to assess the extent of microplastic pollution in coastal environments and investigate its impact on marine ecosystems. The study will focus on identifying sources of microplastics, quantifying their distribution, examining their interactions with marine organisms, and evaluating potential ecological consequences. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, including the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects of microplastic pollution in coastal environments and its effects on marine ecosystems. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the sampling techniques, data collection methods, laboratory analysis procedures, and statistical tools used in the study.
