Thesis Abstract

The abstract section is as follows The effects of contaminants on the flow or rheological properties of oil-based mud (OBM) are crucial in drilling operations as they can significantly impact the efficiency and safety of the process. Contaminants such as drilled cuttings, salt, and solids from the formation can alter the rheological behavior of OBM, affecting its performance in maintaining wellbore stability and transporting drill cuttings to the surface. This study aims to investigate the influence of contaminants on the flow and rheological properties of OBM through laboratory experiments and numerical simulations. Experimental analyses will involve exposing OBM samples to various types and concentrations of contaminants under controlled conditions. The rheological properties of the contaminated OBM will be characterized using standard testing methods such as viscometry and yield point measurements. The flow behavior index, consistency index, and other rheological parameters will be determined to assess the changes induced by different contaminants. The impact of contaminants on OBM's ability to suspend cuttings and maintain desired fluid properties will also be evaluated.
