Abstract
The effect of heavy rainfall on farmlands in Nigeria, with a case study of Itu Local Government, has been a topic of concern due to its significant impact on agricultural productivity and food security in the region. This research project aims to investigate the specific consequences of heavy rainfall on farmlands in Itu Local Government area and explore potential mitigation strategies to minimize these effects. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive analysis of the problem. Data will be collected through field surveys, interviews with local farmers, and analysis of meteorological data to understand the patterns of heavy rainfall in the region and its impact on agricultural activities. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the impact of heavy rainfall on agricultural productivity in Nigeria, particularly in the context of Itu Local Government. By identifying the specific challenges faced by farmers in the area, the study aims to provide recommendations for policy-makers and farmers to better prepare for and adapt to the effects of heavy rainfall on farmlands. Overall, this research project seeks to raise awareness about the vulnerability of farmlands to heavy rainfall in Nigeria and highlight the importance of implementing sustainable agricultural practices to mitigate these effects. By understanding the specific challenges faced by farmers in Itu Local Government, this study aims to support the development of targeted interventions that can help improve the resilience of the agricultural sector to extreme weather events, ultimately enhancing food security and livelihoods in the region.
