Abstract
Solid waste management is a critical issue facing urban centers in Nigeria, with significant environmental and public health implications. This study aims to investigate the impact of solid wastes in urban centers in Nigeria by examining the current waste management practices, challenges faced, and potential solutions. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, including surveys, interviews, and observational studies to gather data from various stakeholders involved in solid waste management. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on solid waste management in urban areas in Nigeria and provide insights into the key factors influencing waste generation, collection, disposal, and recycling. The research will also explore the attitudes and behaviors of residents towards waste management practices and evaluate the effectiveness of current waste management policies and strategies. Through a comprehensive analysis of the data collected, this study aims to identify the main sources of solid waste in urban centers, assess the environmental and health impacts of uncontrolled waste disposal, and propose sustainable solutions to improve waste management practices. The research will also examine the role of government agencies, private sector actors, and community-based organizations in addressing the solid waste management challenges in urban areas. The results of this study are expected to inform policy decisions and guide the development of effective solid waste management strategies that are tailored to the specific needs and conditions of urban centers in Nigeria. By highlighting the importance of sustainable waste management practices, this research seeks to raise awareness about the negative consequences of improper waste disposal and promote behavior change among residents to reduce waste generation and enhance recycling efforts. Overall, this study aims to contribute to the sustainable development of urban centers in Nigeria by addressing the critical issue of solid waste management. By understanding the impact of solid wastes and identifying potential solutions, this research seeks to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for current and future generations living in urban areas in Nigeria.
