Abstract
Effective waste management practices are essential for maintaining environmental sustainability in urban areas. This thesis focuses on the assessment and optimization of waste management practices in urban areas to achieve sustainable environmental management. The study aims to investigate the current waste management practices, identify challenges, and propose strategies for optimizing these practices to minimize environmental impacts and promote sustainable development. The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review to examine existing waste management practices, policies, and technologies. Data collection techniques include surveys, interviews, and case studies to gather information on waste generation, collection, disposal, and recycling processes in urban areas. The study also incorporates quantitative analysis to assess the environmental impact of current waste management practices and model scenarios for optimization. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings, including the identification of key challenges in waste management, such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of public awareness, and ineffective policies. The chapter also highlights best practices and innovative technologies that can be adopted to improve waste management efficiency and reduce environmental pollution.
