Abstract
As urbanization continues to expand worldwide, the need for sustainable practices to enhance biodiversity and mitigate climate change in urban areas becomes increasingly imperative. This thesis explores the effectiveness of green infrastructure in urban settings as a means to achieve these dual objectives. The study focuses on assessing the impact of green infrastructure on biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation within urban environments. The research methodology employed in this study consists of a comprehensive literature review, field surveys, data analysis, and modeling techniques. The literature review examines existing studies and best practices related to green infrastructure, biodiversity conservation, and climate change mitigation in urban areas. Field surveys are conducted to collect primary data on the presence and distribution of green infrastructure elements, biodiversity indicators, and climate-related variables in selected urban sites. The findings of this study reveal the positive effects of green infrastructure on enhancing biodiversity and mitigating climate change in urban areas. Green spaces such as parks, green roofs, urban forests, and rain gardens are shown to support a diverse range of plant and animal species, improve air quality, reduce urban heat islands, and enhance overall ecosystem resilience.
