Abstract
Wetlands are vital ecosystems that provide numerous ecological services, including biodiversity conservation and water quality improvement. However, these ecosystems are increasingly threatened by human activities, leading to degradation and loss. Wetland restoration has emerged as a crucial strategy to mitigate these impacts and restore ecosystem functions. This thesis aims to assess the effectiveness of wetland restoration for biodiversity conservation and water quality improvement. The study begins with a comprehensive literature review that explores the importance of wetlands, the threats they face, and the benefits of restoration efforts. The research methodology involves field surveys, data collection, and analysis to evaluate the biodiversity and water quality parameters of restored wetlands compared to degraded or natural wetlands. The findings reveal the positive impacts of wetland restoration on biodiversity conservation, with restored wetlands supporting a higher diversity of plant and animal species compared to degraded sites. Additionally, water quality parameters such as nutrient levels and pollutant concentrations show significant improvement in restored wetlands. The discussion delves into the factors influencing the effectiveness of wetland restoration, including site selection, restoration techniques, and monitoring strategies. The results highlight the importance of long-term monitoring and adaptive management to ensure the sustained success of restoration projects. In conclusion, this thesis underscores the critical role of wetland restoration in enhancing biodiversity conservation and water quality improvement. The findings emphasize the need for continued research and investment in wetland restoration to safeguard these valuable ecosystems for future generations.
