Abstract
The escalating issue of plastic pollution in marine ecosystems has become a global concern due to its detrimental impacts on marine life and the environment. This thesis aimed to assess the impacts of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems and propose strategies for sustainable management. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis with qualitative assessments to provide a comprehensive understanding of the problem. Chapter 1 introduced the research, providing background information on plastic pollution in marine ecosystems, stating the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, and defining key terms. Chapter 2 presented a detailed literature review covering ten key topics related to plastic pollution in marine ecosystems, including the sources, types, distribution, effects on marine life, and existing management strategies. Chapter 3 described the research methodology, outlining the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. The study utilized both primary and secondary data sources, including surveys, interviews, and literature review. Chapter 4 presented an in-depth discussion of the research findings, highlighting the impacts of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems and evaluating the effectiveness of current management strategies. The findings revealed that plastic pollution poses a significant threat to marine biodiversity, with detrimental effects on marine animals, ecosystems, and human health. The study identified key challenges in managing plastic pollution and recommended a multi-faceted approach involving policy interventions, public awareness campaigns, and technological innovations. Chapter 5 provided a summary of the research findings and conclusions drawn from the study.
