The rapid urbanization and population growth in cities have led to an increase in waste generation, posing significant environmental and health challenges. Effective waste management practices are essential to ensure the sustainability of urban areas. This thesis aims to assess the current status of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, with a focus on identifying challenges, evaluating existing strategies, and proposing recommendations for improvement. The study begins with a comprehensive introduction outlining the background of the research, the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. The literature review in Chapter Two examines ten key studies related to sustainable waste management practices, including waste minimization, recycling, composting, and waste-to-energy technologies. The review highlights best practices, challenges, and gaps in the existing literature. Chapter Three presents the research methodology, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. The chapter also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the study.
