Plastic pollution has become a significant environmental issue globally, particularly in aquatic ecosystems. This thesis aims to assess the impact of plastic pollution on aquatic ecosystems and propose potential mitigation strategies to address this pressing concern. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review to understand the current state of plastic pollution in aquatic environments and its detrimental effects on biodiversity, water quality, and ecosystem health. Various mitigation strategies were analyzed, including policy interventions, technological innovations, public awareness campaigns, and sustainable waste management practices. The findings of this study underscore the alarming extent of plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems, highlighting the persistence of plastics, their harmful effects on marine life, and the potential risks to human health. The analysis of mitigation strategies revealed the importance of a multi-faceted approach that combines regulatory measures, community engagement, and innovation in plastic waste management.
