Methane emissions from sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and climate change. This research project focuses on exploring and implementing effective mitigation strategies to reduce methane emissions from these sources. The study involves analyzing the current practices and technologies used in managing methane emissions in sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants, as well as evaluating their efficiency and sustainability. The research will investigate various methane mitigation techniques such as landfill gas collection and utilization, biogas production from sewage sludge, anaerobic digestion, and biofiltration. The goal is to assess the feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and environmental impact of these mitigation strategies in reducing methane emissions. Additionally, the study will explore innovative approaches and emerging technologies that have the potential to further enhance methane mitigation efforts in sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants. Furthermore, the research will investigate the regulatory frameworks and policies governing methane emissions from sanitary landfills and sewage treatment plants at the local, national, and international levels. Understanding the existing regulations and identifying gaps or areas for improvement will be crucial in developing comprehensive mitigation strategies and achieving emission reduction targets.
