Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Integrated public lands management involves the coordination of various activities on public lands to ensure sustainable use and conservation of natural resources. This requires the integration of ecological, social, and economic principles to achieve multiple objectives such as biodiversity conservation, recreation, and resource extraction. In this research, we explore the principles and applications of integrated public lands management and examine case studies to understand its implementation in different contexts. We discuss the challenges and opportunities associated with integrated management approaches, including stakeholder engagement, policy coherence, and adaptive management strategies. By synthesizing existing literature and practical examples, we provide insights into the key components of successful integrated public lands management and highlight the importance of collaboration, data sharing, and adaptive decision-making processes. Our findings suggest that effective integrated management of public lands requires a holistic approach that considers the interconnections between ecological, social, and economic systems. This research contributes to the ongoing dialogue on sustainable land management practices and provides valuable recommendations for policymakers, land managers, and stakeholders involved in public lands management.

Thesis Overview

Integrated Public Lands Management is the only book that deals with the management procedures of all the primary public land management agencies—National Forests, Parks, Wildlife Refuges, and the Bureau of Land Management—in one volume. This book fills the need for a unified treatment of the analytical procedures used by federal land management agencies in planning and managing their diverse lands. The second edition charts the progress these agencies have made toward the management of their lands as ecosystems.

It includes new U.S. Forest Service regulations, expanded coverage of Geographic Information Systems, and new legislation on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Wildlife Refuges. This book fills the need for a unified treatment of the analytical procedures used by federal land management agencies in planning and managing their diverse lands
