Abstract
The research focuses on investigating the effect of heavy rainfall on farmlands in Nigeria, with a specific case study of Itu Local Government. Nigeria, being an agricultural-dependent country, is highly vulnerable to the impacts of heavy rainfall on agricultural activities. The study aims to analyze the extent of damage caused by heavy rainfall on farmlands in Itu Local Government and assess the adaptation strategies employed by farmers to mitigate these effects. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized to collect data for this research. Surveys, interviews, and field observations will be conducted to gather primary data from farmers in Itu Local Government. Additionally, secondary data from relevant sources will be analyzed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The data collected will be analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative methods to identify patterns, trends, and correlations. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing knowledge on the impact of heavy rainfall on agricultural productivity in Nigeria. By focusing on a specific case study in Itu Local Government, the research will provide localized insights that can inform policy decisions and agricultural practices in the region. The study will also highlight the challenges faced by farmers in adapting to the changing climate patterns and extreme weather events. The research is significant as it addresses a critical issue that affects the livelihoods of many people in Nigeria. Understanding the effects of heavy rainfall on farmlands will help policymakers, researchers, and farmers develop sustainable strategies to enhance agricultural resilience to climate change. By identifying the specific challenges faced by farmers in Itu Local Government, the research aims to provide targeted recommendations to improve agricultural practices and reduce the vulnerability of farmlands to heavy rainfall. Overall, this research will contribute to the body of knowledge on climate change adaptation in agriculture, particularly in the context of heavy rainfall in Nigeria.
