This thesis investigates the representation of gender in contemporary African literature through a critical analysis of selected literary works. The study explores how African writers depict and challenge traditional gender roles, stereotypes, and power dynamics in their narratives. Through a close reading of primary texts and engagement with relevant literary theories, the research aims to provide insights into the complex ways in which gender is constructed and negotiated in African literary discourse. The introductory chapter sets the stage for the study by discussing the background of the research, identifying the problem statement, outlining the objectives, specifying the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting the significance of the research, and presenting the structure of the thesis.
