Thesis Abstract

Abstract
In this research project, we investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among young adults. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many people, especially the younger generation. The potential effects of social media on mental well-being have garnered significant attention in recent years. This study aims to contribute to the existing literature by examining the relationship between social media usage patterns and various aspects of mental health, including psychological well-being, self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on participants' social media behavior and mental health status. A sample of young adults aged 18-30 will be recruited to participate in the study. Participants will be asked to complete surveys assessing their social media usage habits, mental health symptoms, and overall well-being. Additionally, a subset of participants will be selected for in-depth interviews to provide further insights into their experiences with social media and mental health. The quantitative analysis will focus on identifying correlations between different metrics of social media engagement (such as time spent on social platforms, frequency of use, and types of content consumed) and mental health outcomes. Statistical methods, including regression analysis, will be used to examine the strength and direction of these relationships. The qualitative data from the interviews will be analyzed thematically to uncover nuanced perspectives on how social media influences participants' mental health. By integrating quantitative and qualitative findings, this research aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between social media usage and mental health outcomes among young adults. The results of this study have the potential to inform mental health interventions and social media guidelines targeted at this demographic. Additionally, the findings may contribute to the development of strategies to promote positive mental health in the digital age. Overall, this research project addresses a significant gap in the literature by providing empirical evidence on the relationship between social media usage and mental health among young adults. The insights gained from this study can have important implications for both research and practice in the fields of psychology, public health, and social media studies.
