This research project focuses on the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many young people, providing a platform for communication, self-expression, and social interaction. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical stage of development. This study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes in adolescents. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to collect data on social media usage habits and mental health indicators, as well as qualitative interviews to gain deeper insights into the subjective experiences of adolescents in relation to social media and mental health. The study will involve a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The quantitative analysis will examine correlations between different aspects of social media use (such as frequency, duration, and content of interaction) and mental health outcomes (including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and body image issues). The qualitative component will explore themes related to the perceived benefits and drawbacks of social media, coping strategies employed by adolescents, and the role of social support in mitigating the negative impact of social media on mental health. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative data, this research aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. The findings will contribute to existing literature on the subject and inform evidence-based strategies for promoting healthy social media use and supporting the mental well-being of young people.
