Abstract
This research project explores the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study aims to investigate how the use of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat influences the mental well-being of teenagers. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to gather statistical data and qualitative interviews to provide in-depth insights into the subjective experiences of adolescents. The research will focus on several key aspects, including the frequency and duration of social media use, the types of content consumed, the interactions with peers and influencers, as well as the emotional responses and self-perceptions of the participants. By examining these factors, the study seeks to identify both the positive and negative effects of social media on adolescent mental health. Through the analysis of survey data and interview transcripts, the research aims to uncover patterns and correlations between social media usage and mental health outcomes. It will also explore how factors such as cyberbullying, body image issues, fear of missing out (FOMO), and social comparison contribute to the psychological well-being of teenagers in the digital age. The findings of this study have the potential to inform mental health professionals, educators, parents, and policymakers about the complex relationship between social media and adolescent mental health. By gaining a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which social media influences teenagers' well-being, stakeholders can develop more effective interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health outcomes in this vulnerable population. Overall, this research project aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on mental health and to raise awareness about the importance of promoting healthy online behaviors among adolescents. By shedding light on the nuances of this issue, the study seeks to empower individuals and organizations to foster a safer and more supportive digital environment for young people to thrive and flourish.
