Abstract
The project focuses on investigating the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many young people, offering both opportunities for connection and risks to mental well-being. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the subject. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve administering surveys to a large sample of adolescents to assess their patterns of social media use and mental health outcomes. Questions will cover frequency of social media use, types of platforms used, and self-reported mental health indicators such as stress levels, anxiety, and self-esteem. Statistical analysis will be employed to identify any correlations between social media usage and mental health issues. In addition to the survey data, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a smaller group of adolescents to delve deeper into their experiences with social media and mental health. These interviews will provide insights into the emotional impact of social media, the role of online interactions in shaping self-image, and the strategies young people employ to maintain positive mental well-being in the digital age. The combination of quantitative and qualitative data will allow for a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents. By triangulating findings from both methods, the study aims to provide nuanced insights that can inform interventions and support strategies for young people navigating the complexities of online social networks. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on social media and mental health, shedding light on the potential benefits and risks associated with adolescent social media use.
