This research project investigates the impact of social media on mental health and well-being among adolescents. The rapid rise of social media platforms has transformed the way individuals, particularly young people, interact and communicate. While social media offers various benefits such as connectivity, information sharing, and social support, concerns have been raised regarding its negative effects on mental health. This study aims to explore the relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes, including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and body image issues, among adolescents. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on adolescents' social media usage patterns and their mental health status. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 will be recruited from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to ensure a representative study population. Participants will be asked to complete standardized questionnaires assessing their social media habits and mental health symptoms. Additionally, in-depth interviews will be conducted to delve deeper into the underlying mechanisms linking social media use to mental well-being. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the complex relationship between social media and adolescent mental health. By examining both the positive and negative aspects of social media use, this research aims to inform strategies for promoting healthy social media behaviors and enhancing mental well-being among adolescents.
