Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of the daily lives of young people, providing a platform for communication, self-expression, and social interaction. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental well-being, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical stage of development. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach to examine the relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys distributed to adolescents, focusing on their social media habits, mental health symptoms, and overall well-being. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews with a subset of participants to gain deeper insights into their experiences and perceptions regarding social media and mental health. The research will explore various dimensions of social media use, including the time spent on different platforms, the types of content consumed, and the interactions with peers and online communities. It will also assess mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem to identify any correlations with social media behavior. The findings from this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on mental health, particularly among adolescents. By shedding light on the potential risks and benefits associated with social media use, the research aims to inform the development of strategies and interventions to promote positive mental health outcomes in this vulnerable population. Overall, this research project seeks to provide valuable insights into the complex relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. By combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the study aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of how social media influences various aspects of mental well-being. The findings are intended to inform educators, parents, mental health professionals, and policymakers about the implications of social media use for adolescent mental health and to guide future research and interventions in this important area.
