Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. Social media has become an integral part of teenagers' lives, with platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being widely used for communication and self-expression. While social media offers various benefits, including connectivity and information sharing, there is growing concern about its negative effects on mental well-being. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use among teenagers, as well as their perceptions of its impact on their mental health. Additionally, the surveys will include standardized scales to measure mental health indicators such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. Qualitative interviews will provide deeper insights into teenagers' experiences with social media and how it influences their mental health. Participants will be asked about the types of content they engage with, their emotional responses to social media interactions, and any strategies they use to manage negative feelings related to social media use. The research will also explore potential moderators and mediators of the relationship between social media and mental health. Factors such as peer influence, parental monitoring, and coping mechanisms will be examined to better understand the complex dynamics at play. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on social media and mental health among teenagers. By identifying both the positive and negative aspects of social media use, this research can inform interventions and policies aimed at promoting healthy online behaviors and supporting teenagers' mental well-being. Ultimately, the goal of this project is to raise awareness about the impact of social media on mental health and to provide evidence-based recommendations for parents, educators, and mental health professionals. By fostering a better understanding of how social media affects teenagers, we can work towards creating a more positive and supportive online environment for the younger generation.
