This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for many young people, presenting both opportunities and challenges for their mental well-being. The study will explore how various aspects of social media use, such as time spent online, types of interactions, and comparison behaviors, are related to mental health outcomes including depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between social media and mental health. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 will be recruited from schools and community centers to participate in the study. The surveys will assess social media usage patterns, mental health symptoms, and self-perceptions, while the interviews will delve deeper into the participants' experiences and perceptions of social media's impact on their well-being. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical techniques to identify patterns and correlations between social media use and mental health outcomes. The qualitative data from the interviews will be thematically analyzed to provide rich insights into the subjective experiences of adolescents using social media. By triangulating the findings from both quantitative and qualitative analyses, this study aims to offer a nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between social media and mental health. The results of this research project will contribute to the existing body of literature on social media and mental health, shedding light on the specific mechanisms through which social media may influence adolescents' well-being.
