Abstract
This research project focuses on analyzing the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The proliferation of social media platforms has revolutionized the way individuals, particularly young people, communicate and interact. While social media offers numerous benefits such as increased connectivity and access to information, there is growing concern about its detrimental effects on mental health, especially among adolescents. The study employs a mixed-methods approach to investigate how social media usage influences various aspects of mental health, including self-esteem, body image, anxiety, and depression. Quantitative surveys will be administered to a sample of adolescents to assess their social media usage patterns and self-reported mental health status. Additionally, qualitative interviews will be conducted to gather in-depth insights into the subjective experiences and perceptions of participants regarding the impact of social media on their mental well-being. The research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. By examining both quantitative data and qualitative narratives, the study seeks to identify patterns, trends, and underlying mechanisms that contribute to the observed effects. The findings from this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the topic and may inform interventions and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health outcomes in young social media users. Through an interdisciplinary lens that integrates psychology, sociology, and communication studies, this research project addresses a significant gap in the literature by offering a nuanced analysis of the complex interplay between social media and mental health. By exploring how social media platforms shape adolescents' perceptions of themselves and others, as well as their emotional well-being, this study sheds light on the multifaceted effects of digital technology on mental health outcomes. Ultimately, this research seeks to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with excessive or harmful social media use among adolescents and to foster a more informed discussion about promoting healthy digital habits and supporting positive mental health outcomes in this vulnerable population. By fostering a holistic understanding of the impact of social media on mental health, this study aims to contribute to ongoing efforts to create a safer, more supportive online environment for young people.
