Abstract
This research project focuses on exploring the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. Social media has become an integral part of teenage life, with platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being widely used for communication and self-expression. However, there is growing concern about the negative effects of social media on the mental well-being of teenagers. This study aims to investigate how social media usage influences various aspects of mental health, including self-esteem, body image, anxiety, and depression. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. A sample of teenagers aged 13-18 will be recruited to participate in the study. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as various mental health indicators. The qualitative interviews will delve deeper into the participants' experiences with social media and its impact on their mental health. The findings of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between social media and mental health among teenagers. By identifying the specific ways in which social media affects self-esteem, body image, anxiety, and depression, this research can inform interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health outcomes in this vulnerable population. Ultimately, the goal is to provide teenagers, parents, educators, and mental health professionals with evidence-based insights to navigate the complex terrain of social media in a way that supports mental well-being.
