Abstract
This research project focuses on exploring the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. With the widespread use of social media platforms among teenagers, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects on their well-being. This study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage and various aspects of mental health, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and body image issues. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on adolescents' social media habits and their mental health status. The survey will assess the frequency and duration of social media usage, preferred platforms, and the types of content consumed. Additionally, standardized scales will be used to measure anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and body image concerns among the participants. Qualitative interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to delve deeper into their experiences with social media and how it influences their mental well-being. These interviews will provide valuable insights into the emotional and psychological impact of social media on adolescents, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of the issue. The findings of this research have the potential to contribute significantly to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of social media on adolescent mental health. By identifying the specific ways in which social media can impact anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and body image, this study can inform interventions and strategies to promote positive online experiences for teenagers. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with social media use among adolescents and to provide recommendations for parents, educators, and mental health professionals on how to support young people in navigating the digital landscape in a healthy and responsible manner. By shedding light on this important topic, this study aims to empower individuals to make informed decisions about their social media habits and to promote mental well-being among adolescents in the digital age.
