Abstract
The aim of this research project is to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many individuals, especially teenagers. This study will explore how the use of social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter can affect the mental well-being of young people. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from adolescents aged 13-18. The quantitative surveys will focus on measuring the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as self-reported feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. The qualitative interviews will provide more in-depth insights into the ways in which social media influences the thoughts and behaviors of adolescents. Through the analysis of the data collected, this study aims to identify potential correlations between social media usage and mental health issues among adolescents. It will also seek to uncover any patterns or trends in how different types of social media platforms impact mental well-being. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of social media on mental health, particularly among young people. By gaining a better understanding of these influences, parents, educators, and mental health professionals can develop strategies to promote healthier social media habits and support the mental well-being of adolescents. Overall, this study will shed light on the complex relationship between social media and mental health, providing valuable insights for future research and interventions aimed at mitigating the negative effects of social media on adolescent well-being.
