Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The use of social media has become pervasive among young people, with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat being integral parts of their daily lives. While social media offers numerous benefits, including enhanced connectivity and access to information, there is growing concern about its negative effects on mental health. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on adolescents' social media usage patterns and their mental health outcomes. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, the types of content consumed, and the perceived impact on mental well-being. Concurrently, qualitative interviews will delve deeper into adolescents' experiences with social media, exploring themes such as comparison, cyberbullying, self-esteem, and emotional well-being. By analyzing the data collected from both the surveys and interviews, the research aims to identify correlations between social media use and mental health outcomes among adolescents. The study will also explore potential mediating factors, such as self-esteem, social support, and coping mechanisms, that may influence the relationship between social media and mental health. The findings of this research project have the potential to contribute significantly to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on adolescent mental health. By providing insights into the specific ways in which social media affects young people's well-being, the study can inform the development of targeted interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health outcomes in this population.
