Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of young people's lives, with various platforms allowing for easy connectivity and information sharing. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical stage of development. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data on adolescents' social media usage patterns and their perceptions of how it influences their mental health. The quantitative aspect of the research will involve administering surveys to a large sample of adolescents to assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as self-reported mental health indicators such as stress, anxiety, and depression. In addition to the surveys, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a smaller subset of participants to delve deeper into their experiences with social media and mental health. These interviews will provide valuable insights into the ways in which social media impacts adolescents' self-esteem, body image, and overall well-being. The research project will also explore potential moderating factors that may influence the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes. Factors such as peer influence, parental monitoring, and coping strategies will be examined to better understand how they interact with social media use to shape adolescents' mental health. The findings from this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between social media and mental health among adolescents. By identifying both the positive and negative effects of social media use, the research aims to inform interventions and strategies that can promote healthier online behaviors and support adolescents' mental well-being. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on an important and timely issue that has significant implications for the mental health of today's youth.
