Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among young adults. Social media platforms have become an integral part of daily life for many individuals, especially young adults. While social media offers numerous benefits such as staying connected with others and accessing information, there is growing concern about its potential negative effects on mental health. The study will focus on exploring how various aspects of social media use, including time spent on platforms, types of content consumed, and interaction patterns, may contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Additionally, the research will examine the role of social comparisons, cyberbullying, and FOMO (fear of missing out) in shaping the relationship between social media use and mental well-being. To achieve the research objectives, a mixed-methods approach will be employed. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys to assess social media usage patterns and mental health indicators among a sample of young adults. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews to delve deeper into the experiences and perceptions of participants regarding the impact of social media on their mental health. The findings of this study are expected to provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between social media usage and mental health outcomes among young adults. By identifying specific risk factors and mechanisms through which social media may influence mental well-being, the research aims to inform the development of targeted interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health in this population.
