Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of daily life for many young people, providing a platform for social interaction, information sharing, and self-expression. However, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical stage of development. This study will employ a mixed-methods approach to explore the relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes in adolescents. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys to examine patterns of social media use and self-reported mental health symptoms. Qualitative data will be gathered through interviews to gain a deeper understanding of the subjective experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding the impact of social media on their mental well-being. The research will focus on several key factors, including the amount of time spent on social media, the types of content consumed, and the perceived social comparison and validation that occurs within online social networks. By examining these factors, the study aims to identify potential risk factors associated with social media use and their impact on mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. The findings of this research have the potential to inform interventions and strategies aimed at promoting positive mental health among adolescents in the digital age. By gaining a better understanding of how social media influences mental health outcomes, policymakers, educators, and mental health professionals can develop targeted interventions to mitigate the negative effects of social media use on adolescents' well-being. Overall, this research project seeks to contribute to the growing body of literature on the intersection of social media and mental health, with a specific focus on the unique experiences of adolescents. By exploring the complex relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes, this study aims to provide valuable insights that can guide future research and inform evidence-based interventions to support the mental well-being of young people in an increasingly digital world.
