Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. The study will focus on how the various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter, influence the mental well-being of teenagers. The research will employ both qualitative and quantitative methods to gather data from a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years. The qualitative aspect of the study will involve interviews and focus groups to explore the experiences, perceptions, and behaviors of adolescents in relation to their social media use. This will provide valuable insights into the ways in which social media affects their self-esteem, body image, relationships, and overall mental health. The quantitative part of the research will utilize surveys and questionnaires to collect data on the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as the presence of symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. By combining both qualitative and quantitative approaches, this study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health among adolescents. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on this topic and may have implications for mental health interventions targeted at young people. It is hypothesized that excessive use of social media, especially platforms that emphasize image-focused content, may lead to negative outcomes for adolescents' mental health. These negative outcomes could include increased feelings of inadequacy, social comparison, cyberbullying, and a higher risk of developing anxiety or depression. On the other hand, the research will also explore the potential benefits of social media use, such as social support, self-expression, and community building, which could have positive effects on adolescents' mental well-being. The results of this study will be analyzed using statistical methods to examine the correlations between social media use and mental health indicators. The research findings will be valuable for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers who are concerned about the impact of social media on adolescents' mental health. Ultimately, this research project seeks to provide evidence-based recommendations for promoting healthy social media use among teenagers and supporting their mental well-being in the digital age.
