Abstract
The research project focuses on the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of adolescents' lives, providing avenues for communication, self-expression, and social interaction. However, concerns have arisen regarding the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health outcomes such as depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. This study aims to investigate the relationship between social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes in adolescents. The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on adolescents' social media habits and their mental health status. The quantitative phase will involve administering standardized questionnaires to assess participants' social media usage patterns, mental health symptoms, and perceived social support. Statistical analyses will be conducted to identify potential correlations between social media use and mental health outcomes. In the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to explore their subjective experiences with social media and its impact on their mental well-being. Thematic analysis will be employed to identify common themes and patterns in participants' narratives, providing rich insights into the ways in which social media influences adolescents' mental health. The research aims to contribute to the existing literature by providing a nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes in adolescents. By combining quantitative and qualitative data, this study seeks to offer a comprehensive perspective on the potential benefits and drawbacks of social media for adolescent well-being. The findings of this research are expected to have implications for mental health interventions targeting adolescents, as well as for social media platforms and policymakers. By elucidating the factors that contribute to positive or negative mental health outcomes associated with social media use, this study can inform the development of strategies to promote healthy social media habits and mitigate potential risks for adolescents. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on an important and timely issue concerning the role of social media in shaping adolescents' mental health outcomes. By exploring this topic from multiple perspectives, the study aims to provide valuable insights for stakeholders interested in promoting the well-being of young people in the digital age.
