Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Unemployment is a pressing issue in Nigeria that affects millions of individuals, leading to various social and economic challenges. This research project explores the potential of critical, creative, and caring thinking as a solution to unemployment in Nigeria. By employing a multidimensional approach that combines analytical skills, innovative ideas, and empathy, individuals can develop the mindset and abilities needed to navigate the complex job market successfully. Critical thinking plays a crucial role in helping individuals analyze information, solve problems, and make informed decisions, all of which are essential skills in the workplace. By fostering critical thinking skills through education and training programs, individuals can enhance their ability to adapt to changing job requirements and identify opportunities for career advancement. Creative thinking is equally important in addressing unemployment challenges in Nigeria as it enables individuals to think outside the box, generate new ideas, and explore unconventional solutions. Encouraging creativity in education and fostering a culture of innovation can empower individuals to develop entrepreneurial ventures, leverage their skills and talents, and create sustainable employment opportunities for themselves and others. Caring thinking, characterized by empathy, compassion, and a concern for others, is another critical component in addressing unemployment in Nigeria. By nurturing caring thinking skills, individuals can build strong relationships, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and contribute positively to their communities. This can lead to the creation of support networks, mentorship programs, and social enterprises that provide valuable resources and opportunities for individuals seeking employment. Overall, the integration of critical, creative, and caring thinking offers a holistic approach to addressing unemployment in Nigeria. By promoting these thinking skills through education, training, and community initiatives, individuals can develop the resilience, adaptability, and social awareness needed to thrive in the competitive job market. This research project aims to highlight the importance of fostering a mindset that combines analytical rigor, creativity, and compassion in tackling the complex challenges of unemployment, ultimately paving the way for a more inclusive and sustainable future for all Nigerians.

Thesis Overview

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 THE BACKGROUND

There is no doubt that the type of education bequeathed to us in Nigeria by our Colonial Masters is devoid of reasoning. From the first Education Ordinance issued by the privy in England to our much cherished national policy on education of 1981 (reversed 1998), the whole idea and aims have been a process of remediation instead of redesign – a camouflage, a cosmetic extrapolation. The British came and faulted every aspect of our life including our system of education only to replace it with their own, with their idea, based on the problems they have at home without taking our own indigenous problems into consideration. Any policy which did not lend support to the achievement of their national goal was jettisoned, repudiated and regarded as a taboo. This is what we saw in our religion, our socio-cultural life, political life, economic life and our education.

1.2 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Nigeria needs to critical and creative thinking in order to achieve a common goal.
