Thesis Abstract

The abstract is as follows This research project aims to investigate the effects of mindfulness-based interventions on reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression in college students. Anxiety and depression are prevalent mental health issues among college students, impacting their overall well-being and academic performance. Mindfulness-based interventions have gained attention as an effective approach to addressing mental health issues. The study will employ a randomized controlled trial design, with participants being assigned to either a mindfulness intervention group or a control group. The mindfulness intervention will consist of guided mindfulness practices, such as meditation and breathing exercises, conducted over a period of eight weeks. Participants' anxiety and depression symptoms will be measured using standardized self-report questionnaires at the beginning of the study, post-intervention, and at a follow-up assessment. It is hypothesized that participants in the mindfulness intervention group will show significant reductions in anxiety and depression symptoms compared to the control group. The study also aims to explore potential mediators and moderators of the intervention effects, such as mindfulness skills, self-compassion, and perceived stress. Findings from this research could provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions in a college student population and contribute to the growing literature on mindfulness as a mental health intervention. This study has the potential to inform mental health support services in educational settings and promote the well-being of college students.
