Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. With the widespread use of social media platforms among young people, concerns have been raised regarding its potential negative effects on mental well-being. The study will explore how excessive use of social media, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and unrealistic body image standards portrayed on these platforms contribute to mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. By conducting surveys and interviews with adolescents, the research seeks to understand their experiences, perceptions, and behaviors related to social media use and its influence on their mental health. Furthermore, the project will examine the role of social support and digital literacy in mitigating the negative impact of social media on adolescents' mental health. It will investigate how positive online interactions, supportive relationships, and the ability to critically evaluate online content can serve as protective factors against mental health problems associated with social media use. The findings from this research will provide valuable insights for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers to develop strategies and interventions that promote healthy social media habits and mental well-being among adolescents. In addition, the study will explore the potential benefits of social media in enhancing mental health outcomes for adolescents. It will investigate how social media platforms can be utilized as tools for positive self-expression, social connection, and mental health support. By examining both the negative and positive aspects of social media use, the research aims to present a comprehensive understanding of its impact on adolescents' mental health. Overall, this research project is significant as it addresses a growing concern in the field of mental health and youth development. By shedding light on the complex relationship between social media and mental well-being, the study aims to contribute to the existing literature and initiate discussions on how to promote a healthy digital environment for adolescents.
