Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of the daily lives of young people, with platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being widely used for communication, entertainment, and self-expression. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health, particularly among adolescents who are in a critical stage of psychological development. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on how social media usage patterns relate to mental health outcomes. The quantitative component will involve administering standardized questionnaires to a large sample of adolescents to assess their social media usage habits, mental health status, and levels of psychological well-being. Concurrently, qualitative interviews will be conducted with a smaller group of participants to delve deeper into their experiences with social media and how it influences their mental health. Through the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data, this research aims to provide a nuanced understanding of the complex relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. By exploring the various ways in which social media can impact young people's well-being, the study seeks to uncover both the positive and negative aspects of social media use in relation to mental health outcomes. Findings from this research have the potential to inform strategies for promoting positive mental health in adolescents in the digital age. By identifying specific patterns of social media use that are associated with better or worse mental health outcomes, interventions can be developed to enhance the positive influences of social media while mitigating its negative effects. Ultimately, this research project aspires to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the intersection of social media and mental health, offering insights that can guide efforts to support the psychological well-being of young people in an increasingly connected world.
