Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media has become an integral part of the daily lives of young people, with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat being among the most popular. While social media offers numerous benefits, including increased connectivity and access to information, there is growing concern about its negative effects on mental health, particularly among adolescents. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes. The quantitative survey will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, the types of content consumed, and self-reported mental health indicators such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. The qualitative interviews will provide deeper insights into the subjective experiences of adolescents regarding social media use and its impact on their mental well-being. By analyzing the data collected from both the surveys and interviews, the research aims to identify patterns and correlations between social media usage patterns and mental health outcomes. Additionally, the qualitative data will help contextualize the quantitative findings by exploring the underlying mechanisms through which social media may influence mental health. The findings of this study have the potential to contribute to our understanding of the complex relationship between social media and mental health among adolescents. The results may inform the development of evidence-based interventions and guidelines to promote healthy social media use and protect the mental well-being of young people. Furthermore, by highlighting the experiences and perspectives of adolescents themselves, this research aims to amplify their voices in discussions about social media and mental health. In conclusion, this research project addresses an important gap in the existing literature by providing a comprehensive examination of the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. By combining quantitative and qualitative methods, the study aims to generate nuanced insights that can inform future research and interventions in this area.
