Abstract
The study aimed to investigate the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from a sample of 500 adolescents aged 13-18. The results indicated a significant correlation between excessive social media use and various mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and poor self-esteem. Additionally, the qualitative data from interviews highlighted the role of cyberbullying and social comparison in exacerbating these mental health problems. However, the study also found that positive interactions on social media, such as social support from online communities, could have a protective effect on mental health. These findings underscore the complex relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes among adolescents, suggesting the need for targeted interventions to promote positive online experiences and mitigate the negative effects of social media.
