Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. With the widespread use of social media platforms among young people, concerns have been raised regarding the potential negative effects on their mental well-being. The study will focus on how various aspects of social media, such as excessive use, cyberbullying, comparison with others, and seeking validation through likes and comments, can influence the mental health of adolescents. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data on the subject. A sample of adolescents aged 13-18 will be recruited to participate in the study. The quantitative surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, experiences of cyberbullying, feelings of anxiety or depression, and self-esteem levels. The qualitative interviews will provide in-depth insights into the lived experiences of adolescents in relation to social media and mental health. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing literature by providing a nuanced understanding of the relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes among adolescents. By exploring both the quantitative and qualitative aspects of this issue, the study aims to uncover the mechanisms through which social media can impact the mental well-being of young individuals. The results may have implications for mental health practitioners, educators, parents, and policymakers in developing strategies to promote healthy social media use and support adolescent mental health. Ultimately, this research project seeks to raise awareness about the potential risks associated with social media use among adolescents and highlight the importance of fostering digital literacy and mental health resilience in this population. By shedding light on the complex interplay between social media and mental health, the study aims to contribute to efforts aimed at promoting the well-being of young people in an increasingly digital world.
