Abstract
This research project focuses on the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The study aims to explore the relationship between social media usage and mental well-being in teenagers. Social media has become an integral part of the lives of young people, with platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat being widely used for communication and social interaction. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on mental health. The research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from adolescents aged 13-18. The surveys will assess the frequency and duration of social media use, as well as the types of activities engaged in on these platforms. The interviews will provide in-depth insights into the teenagers' experiences with social media and how it may impact their mental health. Through the analysis of the data collected, the study aims to identify patterns and trends related to social media usage and mental health outcomes. It will also explore the factors that may moderate or mediate the relationship between social media use and mental well-being, such as self-esteem, peer relationships, and cyberbullying. The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing literature on the effects of social media on mental health, particularly among adolescents. By gaining a better understanding of how social media influences teenagers' mental well-being, this study aims to inform interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health in this population. It is hoped that the results of this research will help parents, educators, and mental health professionals support adolescents in navigating the digital world in a healthy and positive way. Overall, this research project seeks to shed light on the complex interplay between social media and mental health in adolescents. By examining both the positive and negative aspects of social media use, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of this important issue and offer recommendations for promoting the well-being of young people in the digital age.
