Abstract
This research project focuses on investigating the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. The proliferation of social media platforms has significantly altered the way young people interact, communicate, and perceive themselves and others. The study aims to explore the various aspects of social media use, including the frequency of use, types of platforms, and the content shared, to understand how these factors relate to mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized to collect data, combining quantitative surveys with qualitative interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The survey will assess participants' social media habits, perceived benefits and drawbacks of social media use, as well as their mental health status. Additionally, interviews will provide in-depth insights into the subjective experiences and perceptions of adolescents regarding social media and its effects on their mental well-being. The research aims to identify potential correlations between social media use patterns and mental health indicators, shedding light on the mechanisms through which social media may influence adolescents' mental health. By examining both the positive and negative aspects of social media, the study seeks to provide a nuanced understanding of its impact on the psychological well-being of young individuals. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on social media and mental health, offering insights that can inform interventions and support strategies for promoting healthy social media use among adolescents. By highlighting the factors that contribute to positive mental health outcomes in the context of social media, this study aims to provide practical recommendations for parents, educators, and mental health professionals working with young people. Overall, this research project addresses a critical gap in the current literature by examining the complex relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents. By incorporating both quantitative and qualitative methods, the study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of this multifaceted issue, with the goal of informing policies and practices that can better support the psychological well-being of young individuals in the digital age.
