Abstract
The research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. In today's digital age, social media has become an integral part of daily life for many young people. While social media offers numerous benefits such as connecting with friends, sharing experiences, and access to information, there is a growing concern about its potential negative effects on mental well-being, particularly among adolescents. This study will explore how social media usage patterns, including the time spent on various platforms, types of interactions, and content consumption, may influence the mental health of teenagers. It will also examine the role of factors such as cyberbullying, social comparison, and fear of missing out in shaping the relationship between social media and mental health outcomes. The research will be conducted using a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys to gather data on social media habits and mental health symptoms, as well as qualitative interviews to gain deeper insights into the lived experiences of adolescents in relation to social media and mental well-being. The study will involve a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issue. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. By identifying specific patterns and mechanisms through which social media may affect mental well-being, this study aims to provide valuable insights for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers to develop strategies and interventions to promote healthy social media use and mitigate potential harm. Ultimately, the goal of this research is to raise awareness about the complex interplay between social media and mental health and to empower adolescents to navigate digital spaces in a way that supports their overall well-being. By shedding light on this important topic, the study seeks to foster a more informed and responsible approach to social media use among young people, promoting positive mental health outcomes and resilience in the face of digital challenges.
