Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Skin cancer is a prevalent and potentially life-threatening condition that requires early detection and continuous monitoring for effective treatment. This thesis presents the development of a mobile application aimed at assisting users in the early detection and monitoring of skin cancer. The mobile application utilizes image recognition technology to analyze skin lesions and provide users with immediate feedback on the likelihood of cancerous characteristics. Through a comprehensive literature review, this study examines existing technologies in dermatology, mobile healthcare applications, and artificial intelligence in healthcare to inform the design and development of the mobile application. The research methodology employed in this study includes software development methodologies, user experience design principles, and machine learning techniques for image analysis. The mobile application is designed to be user-friendly, accessible, and accurate in providing risk assessment for skin cancer. A pilot study was conducted to evaluate the usability and effectiveness of the mobile application, involving participants with varying levels of familiarity with skin cancer detection. The findings of this study indicate that the mobile application shows promise in aiding users in the early detection and monitoring of skin cancer. The image recognition technology used in the application demonstrates high accuracy in identifying potential cancerous lesions, providing users with valuable information for further evaluation by healthcare professionals. The discussion of findings highlights the strengths and limitations of the mobile application, as well as recommendations for future enhancements and research directions. In conclusion, the development of a mobile application for early detection and monitoring of skin cancer represents a significant advancement in leveraging technology for healthcare. The mobile application has the potential to improve access to skin cancer screening, empower individuals to take proactive measures for their health, and complement existing healthcare services. The implications of this study extend to public health initiatives, telemedicine practices, and personalized healthcare solutions. Further research and collaboration with healthcare providers are essential to validate the effectiveness and adoption of the mobile application in clinical settings. Keywords Skin cancer, Mobile application, Image recognition, Early detection, Monitoring, Healthcare technology, Artificial intelligence.
