Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the effects of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media platforms have become an integral part of young people's lives, offering both positive and negative influences on their mental well-being. The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data from a sample of adolescents aged 13-18. The survey will focus on assessing the frequency and duration of social media use, the types of platforms used, and the impact of social media on self-esteem, body image, and overall mental health. Additionally, the interviews will delve deeper into the participants' experiences with social media, exploring how it affects their relationships, emotions, and behavior. By analyzing the collected data, the research aims to identify patterns and correlations between social media usage and mental health outcomes in adolescents. It also seeks to uncover the underlying mechanisms through which social media exerts its influence, such as comparing online social interactions to face-to-face interactions and examining the role of cyberbullying and peer pressure. The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the topic, shedding light on the complex relationship between social media and mental health in adolescents. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for developing effective interventions and strategies to promote positive mental health outcomes among young people in the digital age. Overall, this research project aspires to provide valuable insights into the effects of social media on adolescent mental health, informing future research directions and guiding policymakers, educators, and parents in supporting the well-being of youth in an increasingly connected world.
