Abstract
The research project focused on investigating the impact of social media on mental health outcomes among adolescents. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data. A sample of 500 adolescents aged 13-18 participated in the survey, while 30 individuals took part in the interviews. The quantitative data analysis revealed a significant association between high social media usage and increased levels of anxiety and depression among adolescents. Furthermore, the qualitative findings provided insights into the specific ways in which social media influences mental health, such as through cyberbullying, social comparison, and fear of missing out (FOMO). The study highlighted the need for increased awareness and education regarding the potential negative effects of social media on adolescent mental health. Recommendations included promoting digital literacy skills, encouraging healthy online behaviors, and fostering open communication between parents, educators, and adolescents. By addressing these issues, it is hoped that the negative impact of social media on mental health can be mitigated, and adolescents can develop healthier relationships with technology. Future research should continue to explore this complex relationship and identify effective interventions to support adolescent mental well-being in the digital age.
