Abstract

The research project focused on investigating the impact of social media usage on mental health among adolescents. The study utilized both quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather data from a sample of adolescents aged 13-18 years. The findings of the research revealed a significant correlation between social media usage and mental health issues among adolescents. The study found that excessive use of social media platforms was associated with higher levels of anxiety, depression, and feelings of loneliness among the participants. Furthermore, the research identified specific patterns of social media use, such as comparison with others and cyberbullying, which were particularly detrimental to the mental well-being of adolescents. In addition to the negative effects, the study also highlighted some positive aspects of social media use on mental health. The research found that social media provided a platform for adolescents to connect with peers, seek support, and access mental health resources. However, these positive effects were overshadowed by the overall negative impact of excessive social media usage on mental health. Based on the findings, the study concludes that there is a clear need for interventions to promote healthy social media habits among adolescents. Educating both parents and adolescents about the potential risks of excessive social media use and providing strategies for responsible usage are crucial steps in addressing the mental health implications of social media. Furthermore, mental health professionals should incorporate discussions about social media use during clinical assessments and therapy sessions with adolescent clients. Overall, this research contributes to the growing body of literature on the relationship between social media use and mental health among adolescents. By highlighting the significant impact of social media on mental well-being, this study underscores the importance of addressing this issue to promote the overall mental health and well-being of adolescents in today's digital age.
