Abstract
This research project aims to investigate the impact of social media on mental health among teenagers. The use of social media has become ubiquitous among adolescents, with platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok being integral parts of their daily lives. However, concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects of excessive social media use on the mental well-being of teenagers. The study will employ a mixed-methods approach to explore the relationship between social media usage and mental health outcomes in teenagers. Quantitative data will be collected through surveys distributed to a diverse sample of teenagers, assessing their social media habits and mental health status. Qualitative data will be gathered through in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to provide a deeper understanding of the mechanisms through which social media influences mental health. The research will focus on several key aspects, including the impact of social media on self-esteem, body image, loneliness, anxiety, and depression among teenagers. By examining these factors, the study aims to uncover both the positive and negative effects of social media on mental health. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the subject by providing insights into the complex relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes in teenagers. The results will have implications for parents, educators, mental health professionals, and policymakers who work with adolescents. Overall, this study seeks to shed light on the role of social media in shaping the mental well-being of teenagers and to offer recommendations for promoting healthy social media usage among this vulnerable population. By understanding the impact of social media on mental health, stakeholders can develop strategies to mitigate potential harms and leverage the positive aspects of social media to support the psychological well-being of teenagers.
