Thesis Abstract

This study investigates the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents. Social media usage has become prevalent among youth, with platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat being popular choices for communication and social interaction. The study aims to explore the relationship between social media use and mental health outcomes, including depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. A mixed-methods approach will be employed, including both quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The quantitative component will involve a survey administered to a sample of adolescents, assessing their social media usage patterns and mental health symptoms. The qualitative component will consist of in-depth interviews with a subset of participants to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences and perceptions. The findings of this study will contribute to the growing body of research on the effects of social media on mental health, particularly among adolescents. By examining both quantitative and qualitative data, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of how social media impacts various aspects of mental well-being. Understanding the relationship between social media use and mental health is crucial for informing interventions and policies aimed at promoting positive mental health outcomes among adolescents. By identifying potential risk factors associated with social media use, this study can inform the development of targeted interventions to mitigate negative effects on mental health.
